The Calling of Lithuania

This book is for those who keep wondering why their current land of birth is Lithuania.

It is also dedicated for those who know that, despite all the shortages and chaos in the country today, they will not go abroad to search for a better life.

It is also dedicated for those who are away now, but know that they will definitely return home in order to give their strengths to their Homeland – their Mother – when they have matured and learned.

It is dedicated for all those who still care about the fate of the Spirit of Lithuania.

The Spirit of Lithuania or rather the Spirit of the Aesti is strong. This book is about the heroes of the distant past of that Spirit, who sacrificed themselves for us, living now, and it is about the Idea that guided them.

It is also about us today. It encourages us to think about the rebirth of the Great Idea inside us at the present time. It was only Faith in the Idea that brought our ancestors, the Aesti, to this sea and helped them to survive here for countless millennia. Only the Idea has kept our old language – the remainder of the former unified language of the Gods – alive.

This book is also about the ignition of the spark in a person’s heart and about its turn into a flame. It is about man’s coming to awareness and becoming an Idea himself, about turning the words into deeds.

“The people of the idea have no earthly Homeland, but the country they come to becomes the star of their lives. They love it and care for it, and long for it when they leave, just as ones truly longs for their star” (p. 90).
